Longmeadow, Massachusetts
BOLD organizer Nicole Choiniere organized a performance on September 1. Nicole reports: Everything here in Longmeadow went wonderfully. We had a turnout of about 60 people, a good number for the area we are in, and had a very lively and informative talkback. The actresses (all local mamas with no acting experience) really rocked the show. They were truly amazing; each of them really did inhabit her character for a time. They became a wonderfully cohesive group and I think a few friendships have been founded. For our talkback we had a diverse panel consisting of a Labor and Delivery nurse from a local hospital, a CNM who does hospital deliveries, a doula, and a homebirth midwife. We discussed the CIMS ten points, if they are being or should be instituted here in western MA, and also had a general discussion of childbirth in this area. Lots of good conversation! I think that overall the 2006 BOLD was a success and I look forward to being involved again in the coming years. Thank you for such a wonderful play; it was a truly wonderful experience to be involved in. A BOLD thank you to… Nicole writes… Wayne Barr, my husband, for his continued equal partnership and constant August nights spent picking up my slack so that I could do this. Kelly Gallagher, our amazing director, the woman who dedicated herself to this production from day one and brought it to life in the most wonderful way possible. First Church of Christ in Longmeadow, Ma for generously allowing us to use their sanctuary for our production. Danielle Johns Preston, for all her help getting the production off the ground. Gretel Schatz, our MY BODY ROCKS queen who inspired us all to find our confident birth sounds in those first few rehearsals. Cheyenne Ferro, who imbued Beth with the airs of confidence that were rightfully hers. Jan Pierce, who made the athletic birth of Janet shine and the audience cheer. Kristen Thomas, our four-time birth warrior who made us all rock with laughter as Jillian. Ute Schmidt, for her exceptionally moving performance as Lisa. Bridget Keator, who brought all the complexities of Sandy to life with a perfect blend of joy and sorrow. Nancy Kocsmiersky, for overcoming her stage fright in time to rock the role of Vanessa. Mindi Fried, for good-heartedly taking on the position of multi-talented filler of many roles.
