Rochester, New York
BOLD Coordinator Pat Predmore pulled together 3 performances over Labor Day weekend: September 1, 7:00 PM at Bella Voce Performing Arts Studio in Fairport, NY and at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY. Now that’s BOLD! Pat reports: The performances were just amazing. Although the turnout was lighter than we had hoped we did raise awareness and the people who came just raved. The cast was encouraged to do it again next year and to take it on the road to middle and high schools. Two women brought their daughters back to attend the evening performance. Even men shared that they 'got it'--that BIRTH is a significant life event for women. The talk backs were facilitated by our actresses and myself who are doulas and nurses in the Rochester area. The sharings were poignant, motivating and bonding. A BOLD thank you to … Pat sends a sincere thank you to the cast members, Christy Muscato (Amanda), Kim Maguda (Vanessa), Christine Hood (Sandy), Kim Glanton (Janet), Mary Ann Locke (Lisa), Brigitte Rhody (Beth) and Sherry Sugrue Smith (Sandy). She also wishes to thank the members of The Doula Cooperative who helped with the production and Kirsten Rohl who held us all up as the director's and cast doula. All money raised went to The Doula Cooperative, a community-based network of independent doulas who meet monthly for support and continuing education, and which provides referrals for birth and postpartum doulas to women in the Greater Rochester, New York area and surrounding counties. |
