BOLD Locations

Seattle, Washington

Lynn Hughes, BOLD organizer in Seattle, raised money for the Seattle School of Midwifery. The week before the play Lynn was interviewed on KUOW’s The Beat to talk about BOLD and the importance of birth stories. On September 2 she produced BOLD in Seattle. Lynn reports:

OH . . . . MYYY . . .GODDDD! I can hardly believe that we were just getting organized one month ago and didn't have the show cast until August 14!

At the last minute (two weeks ago), we secured our 75-seat venue, thinking "I think we might be able to fill 75 seats." Well we SOLD OUT on Thursday before a blurb was even in the paper. We were getting calls all day Friday from very disappointed people who had waited till the last minute to call. I had my teenagers out front taking names and contact info of people who showed up at the door, so we can contact them for the NEXT performance. My daughter said, "MOM, there are two PREGNANT women waiting here. They REALLY want to see it--Can't we figure out a way to fit them?" We ended up squeezing about 85 people in the space aside from cast and crew!

TALK BACK--
Our talk back was great! We had doulas and midwives and LOTS of very pregnant women in the audience (as well as our 36-week pregnant Amanda, who was absolutely AMAZING!) as well as (happily) probably a good third of the audience who were NOT from our birth community.
