 Karen Brody, founder of BOLD, playwright of Birth
Karen Brody is a mother, playwright, and the Artistic Director of BOLD, a global arts-based movement inspiring communities to raise awareness and money to improve maternity care for mothers. Her critically-acclaimed play about childbirth in America, Birth, and BOLD Red Tent storytelling circles are seen by thousands of people worldwide every year as part of BOLD.
Karen’s most recent play on motherhood, Michelle Obama: Taskmaster, was read at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
As an extension of her work, Brody launched the My Body Rocks Project offering workshops that use storytelling, movement and relaxation techniques as a way to revolutionize the way mothers and our culture understand issues like childbirth and work/life balance.
Karen has a masters degree in women and development. Before becoming a writer she was a community organizer for 10 years leading workshops for women around the world.
